Ready to put the four squares together


Center flower:
Wind yarn around finger to form a loop *

With color A
Round 1: In ring, work [ch 3, 2 tr, ch 3, sl st] four times. Four petals formed. Break off color A.

With color B
Round 2: Join with sl st in top of first tr st in any petal. Sc in same st. Sc in next st. Ch 5. [Sc in each tr of next petal, ch 5] three more times. Join in first sc with sl st.

Round 3: Ch 3 (serves as first dc), dc in same st, ch 1, 2 dc in next sc, 5 dc in ch-5 space. [2 dc in next sc, ch 1, 2 dc in next sc, 5 dc in ch-5 space] three more times. Join with sl st in top of beg ch-3. Break off color B. (36 stitches)

This round uses extended hdc (ehdc) and extended dc (edc, eedc) stitches. For ‘how-to’, see below**
With color C
Round 4: Join in ch-1 space of any corner. Ch 4 (serves as first tr), 2 more tr in same ch-1 space. First corner completed.
Eedc, edc, dc, ehdc, hdc, ehdc, dc, edc, eedc. Side completed. Work 3 tr in next corner ch-1 space. Repeat in this manner around block. Join with sl st. Break off color C.

Round 5:
Join color D with sl st in first tr of any corner, ch 4 (serves as first edc) 3 tr in center tr, edc in next tr. First corner completed. Dc in next st, [ch 1, sk next st, dc in next st] four times. Edc in next st, 3 tr in next st, edc in next st. Second corner completed. Repeat around. Join with sl st.
Round 6:
Work [1 sc in each dc and 1 sc in each ch-1 space along sides. For corners, work sc, 3 hdc in center corner st, sc] around. Join with sl st. Break off yarn
